Characterization of Maize Hybrids (Zea mays L.) for Salt Tolerance at Seedling Stage

نویسندگان

چکیده

Salinity is the most atrocious environmental aspects restricting productivity of agricultural crops. To fulfill global increasing demand food, selection salt tolerant genotypes to get production from affected soils imperative. In present experiment, ten maize were evaluated against four salinity levels (control, 40 mM, 80 mM and 120 NaCl) using different agronomic physiological criteria. Significant variations observed in all morpho-physiological ionic attributes hybrids. Results depicts that hybrid 2225 exhibited tolerance show higher plant biomass, chlorophyll water contents, membrane stability along with K+/Na+ ratio. While 8711 had lower growth among hybrids considered as sensitive genotype. The results can be used a tool for provide better source breeders further assessment on saline lands.

Screening for Salt Tolerance in Maize (zea Mays L.) Hybrids at an Early Seedling Stage

An efficient and simple mass screening technique for selection of maize hybrids for salt tolerance has been developed. Genetic variation for salt tolerance was assessed in hybrid maize (Zea mays L.) using solution-culture technique. The study was conducted in solution culture exposed to four salinity levels (control, 40, 80 and 120 mM NaCl). Seven days old maize seedlings were transplanted in t...

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Effects of Different Potassium Stress on Leaf Photosynthesis and Chlorophyll Fluorescence in Maize (Zea Mays L.) at Seedling Stage

Leaf early senescence caused by nutrition deficiency is one of the major limitation reasons in the world crop production. Potassium (K) is one of important nutrient elements in crop growth, which modifies dozens of enzyme activations and controls stomatal movement of photosynthesis. The yield and quality of maize (Zea Mays L.) have been limited due to K deficiency in plough layer soil. However,...

Transcriptomic Profiling of the Maize (Zea mays L.) Leaf Response to Abiotic Stresses at the Seedling Stage

Abiotic stresses, including drought, salinity, heat, and cold, negatively affect maize (Zea mays L.) development and productivity. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms of resistance to abiotic stresses in maize, RNA-seq was used for global transcriptome profiling of B73 seedling leaves exposed to drought, salinity, heat, and cold stress. A total of 5,330 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) w...

Evaluation of selection indices for drought tolerance of corn (Zea mays L.) hybrids

Drought is one of the major problems affecting crops production, including corn, in many parts of Iran. In order to detect drought tolerant grain corn hybrids, an experiment with twenty corn hybrids was conducted during 2006 in Qom Province, Iran, using a complete randomized block design with four replications, under optimal moisture and drought stress condition. Results showed diversity among ...
